Hastings Music was thrilled to welcome a special guest artist, Jeremy Kittel, along with his trio, Kittel & Co., to work with our string players on fiddle-style playing and give a special performance.
Jeremy is a Grammy-nominated violinist who specializes in an exciting fusion of Celtic, classical, and jazz. The performance featured Jeremy and his trio alongside the Hastings High School Orchestra.

Safe and Sound
A Virtual Concert featuring HHS and FMS Bands, Orchestras, Jazz Ensembles, and more!
The HHS/FMS Music Department is proud to present "Safe and Sound," a virtual concert that premiered on YouTube on March 26, 2021.
Bands, Orchestras, Jazz, and more were featured, including approximately 125 instrumental music students in grades 7-12.
Mr. Day's 2019-2020 Middle and High School
Band and Orchestra Ensembles
Mr. Day's FMS and HHS students have been working together since mid-April on virtual ensemble pieces during this distance learning time. Students learned music at home and ultimately used "conductor cam" videos (which included metronome, guide tracks, and Mr Day conducting) in order to record themselves playing their individual parts. Their videos were then lovingly combined through the magic of modern technology (and a couple of professional helpers!) to create the effect of musicians playing together.
"Needless to say, we terribly miss the experience of making music in the same room, but this project has been a great source of creative focus and positive energy during these challenging times. Please click on the images below to view both videos. I hope it brings you some joy to see how we were able to come together in pursuit of making something beautiful. Please enjoy and feel free to share!" - Mr Day
Mr. Riss appeared in an all-day marathon performance of all four Clavier-Übung volumes of J.S. Bach, live-streamed from Irvington Presbyterian Church!
Bach wrote four Clavier-Übung volumes, with each including in the title page some variation of the dedication "for music lovers and the refreshment of their spirits." For the curious, the first volume consists of the six partitas; the second, the Italian Concerto and French Ouverture; the third, a collection of organ works commonly referred to as the "German Organ Mass,"; and the fourth, Bach's well-loved Goldberg Variations.
Mr. Riss presented all four volumes in a marathon harpsichord, piano, and organ concert on Saturday, June 6th, from 12:00 noon until approximately 6:00 PM

ZOOM: HHS Virtual Open Mic Night!
This Thursday, June 4th, we will be hosting a HHS Virtual Open Mic Night over Zoom at 5pm! We have some great acts already signed up and are hoping some more will jump in by Thursday (students can use the link below to sign up).
So far some musicians are doing NYSSMA solos they didn't get to perform since festivals were canceled, others are doing singer/songwriter covers and originals, and one or two are doing classical piano pieces.
We're hoping this will be a nice way to bring the community together and give the students a venue to perform, and naturally families are invited to tune in and enjoy the performances.
