Hillside Music Curriculum
Starting in Kindergarten, students will learn to sing, chant, move, listen, and play in music with general music classes.
All students will receive two 44-minute music classes every six-day cycle.
Students in third grade may begin violin with Mr. Carini.
Students in fourth grade may begin any stringed instrument with Mr. Carini.
Students in fourth grade may begin any band instrument with Mr. Riss.
Third and fourth grade students may join the Hillside Chorus with Mr. Friedman.
Little Kids Rock has been running for over 10 years at Hillside - it is a program developed by Dave Wish to help promote Modern Rock Band methods and techniques into schools. Little Kids Rock has supplied Hillside with twenty ¾ size acoustic guitars which the students are able to take home every week to practice.
4th grade students come during their free time (usually during recess) and have a 45 minute group lesson with Ms Concra. After they have learned some chords, the students eventually get to bring in songs they would like to learn together.
This year some students are working on improvised solos to incorporate into our songs. The program culminates with a performance during the spring concert.
